Gill James

Gill James has been writing non-fiction for children for six years. She has over 30 books in print, mainly in Modern Foreign language, but also some fiction for children, some language books for adults and some manuals for teachers. Her preferred language is German. She can write up to GCSE standard in French, German and Spanish, and up to University standard in French and German. She has also written books on Citizenship.

Most of her work encourages the learner to take charge of their own learning. She has helped with editorial work for French for CGP. She has taught languages for many years, six of them as a Head of Modern Languages. She has had students aged 5 to 85, in the UK and abroad. She has a thorough understanding of the UK curriculum and also the experience of how other cultures approach language learning.

Other work:

Gill frequently makes school visits. She provides Master Classes in language learning – typically GCSE, A-Level, general Language Learning and especially Creative Writing in Modern Languages. She has worked with some schools on producing anthologies, both fiction and non-fiction.

These books follow closely the QCA guide lines of what should be presented to children studying a language in Key Stage 2. The books are useful for revision bit do treat the topic in enough details that they can be used by beginners.

This comes in four parts. It is a teach-yourself German grammar series for KS3 and KS4, though some students have used it for AS level. It is also available in an interactive electronic version.

German reading material for KS3 / 4 National Curriculum Level 6+, encouraging independent reading for pleasure and is published in a magazine format. The stories were suggested by German school children.

10 pages and editorial work provided. These revision guides, which are quite popular with KS4 pupils, for this publisher , are generally written by a team of writers. It provides an interesting experience in collaboration for the writers.
