I initially started out as a research scientist, and have a PhD in molecular genetics, but I soon found myself in teaching. Having taught for a number of years, I was asked to contribute a few pages to a science text book. And my writing career started from there. I have written for most of the major UK publishers (Pearson – including Edexcel, Heinemann & Longman), Nelson Thornes, Hodder Education and Collins Education. I have also acted as series editor on a number of publications, including the hugely successful Exploring Science. I gave up teaching a few years ago but still very much follow the developments in the teaching of science in schools, and I regularly attend education conferences.
